DAVID Mooney is out to prove his worth to Southend United this season.
The Shrimpers striker bagged his third goal in five pre-season friendlies when he opened the scoring in Saturday's 3-2 win against West Ham United.
And Mooney now wants to take that form into the League One campaign as he aims to improve on his first year with the club.
"I felt as though last year was hit and miss for me really," said Mooney who scored eight goals last season.
"I know I need to knuckle down and work hard and that's what I've been doing.
"I feel good at the moment and hopefully my quality can shine through this season.
"Bringing quality in like Simon Cox helps to bring the quality out in others and that's what I'm hoping will happen with him.
"It's always nice to score so I've been pleased to score a few in pre-season but now I want to keep that going and take it into the league season where, with a couple more additions, I really think we could do well.
