BEN Coker believes Southend United’s convincing victory at Sheffield United will kick-start their season.

The Shrimpers secured an impressive 3-0 win at Bramall Lane on Tuesday night.

And Coker feels the well deserved three points have handed Blues a massive boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bristol Rovers.

“We’ve shown we’re all together as a group and staff now and we want to kick on from here to have a positive season,” said the left-back.

“You could see it in the changing room after the game how much of a difference it had had on everyone.

“On Saturday (after losing at Port Vale) we were all a bit down but now we’ve got our first three points it will give us the freedom to play the way we want to.”

Blues netted three times inside the opening 15 minutes against the Blades, with Stephen McLaughlin and Simon Cox both on target after the home side’s defender Jack O’Connell had also netted an own goal.

And Coker was full of praise for the performance.

“Early doors we stuck it to them,” said the defender.

“The boys up top were brilliant and we kept it tight at the back as well, so it was a great display.

“We’re all really pleased and can’t wait to get back out there at the weekend now.”

The win came after three successive defeats for Blues which Coker revealed led to some clear-the-air talks.

“We weren’t happy after Saturday, so all the boys spoke together to clear a few things up,” said Coker.

“We spoke to the gaffer and we really wanted to play football which is what we did.”
