JACK Bridge was not sure whether or not Southend United should have been awarded their crucial late penalty against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Simon Cox netted an 81st minute spot-kick to secure the Shrimpers a share of the spoils after Pirates striker Ellis Harrison was adjudged to have handled Bridge’s cross.

But Blues’ attacking midfielder could not tell if the correct decision had been made.

“I was running the other way so I couldn’t see what happened very clearly if I’m honest,” said Bridge, who played the final 24 minutes in place of David Mooney.

“I was just trying to get the ball back into a dangerous area but it was all very close.

“I’m not sure what it hit but we appealed and we take what we can get.”

Cox’s penalty earned Blues a point and came after Bridge had made a positive impact off the bench.

The 20-year-old saw plenty of the ball in the closing stages and was pleased to help the Shrimpers get back into the match.

“The way the game went we did well to get a point in the end,” said Bridge, who came through the youth system at Roots Hall.

“When I got on I wanted to try and make a difference and help us get at least a point.

“I thought we were the better team in the first half and we kept on going even when we went behind.

“We were rewarded with an equaliser and maybe we could have snatched another goal at the end there.”

But the point came on the back of Tuesday night’s impressive 3-0 win at Sheffield United.

And Bridge is now keen for Blues to enjoy a long unbeaten run.

“Tuesday night was a great win at Sheffield United and we played well again here but we obviously want to be winning,” said Bridge.”

“Hopefully we can do that soon and get on a good run because I think we’re capable of doing that.”
