PHIL Brown insists he will not be shying away from the pressure when Southend United host Millwall at Roots Hall tomorrow.

The Shrimpers boss has seen his side win just one of their opening seven league games this season.

And the 57-year-old is fully aware of the growing discontent among the club’s supporters.

“I’m probably one of the top 10 or 15 managers in terms of in time at their club in English football and when that combines with not starting well people will look at you and ask if it’s time for you to go,” said Brown.

“It’s part and parcel of the game and there’s certainly no shying away from that.

“It’s something I’ve got to deal with and hopefully the players can help me deal with it by putting in a good performance tomorrow to help us get a win against Millwall.

“Everyone feels under pressure when you’re at the wrong end of the division but I know I still have the support of the players.

“If we bring our best game to the table then this is a game we can win and hopefully that can turn our season around.”

Blues head into the game sitting 22nd in the League One standings.

But Brown believes the fixture list has not been kind to his team in the early weeks of the season.

“We haven’t started a season as poorly as we have this one since I’ve been here if you look at my record but that’s also down to a run of teams we’ve played against,” said the Blues boss.

“It’s a tough league with a lot of strong sides but we’ve had very difficult games recently and it’s another one tomorrow.”

Millwall - who are managed by former Shrimpers striker Neil Harris - are fifth in the table.

And Brown is still smarting from the 4-0 defeat suffered against the Lions last December.

“I remember that changing room and seeing that pain and hurt following our defeat to Millwall last season,” said Brown.

“The players still here will remember that too but there’s added spice to the game with Neil coming back, and David Worrall too.

“The first goal is important and if we can get our noses in front then that belief and confidence will come in our group and we can go on to win the game,” the Shrimpers boss added.
