SOUTHEND United were unable to complete a deal for Marc-Antoine Fortune ahead of Saturday's win against Millwall.
Blues boss Phil Brown had been keen on bringing the experienced Frenchman to Roots Hall.
But Fortune's wage demands seem to have scuppered the deal.
"He was after a lot of money and we weren't prepared to do that," said Brown.
"The move will only happen if he accepts less money."
