ECHOSPORT chats to Oxford United supporter Patrick Wehmeier ahead of tonight’s clash at Roots Hall.

What have you made of Oxford’s season so far?

“I would describe the start so far as solid, with room for improvement still.

“We took a few games to adjust to the higher level after our promotion last season but we are now unbeaten in four league games and looking to push on.”

What are your hopes for Oxford this season?

“My hopes are for a top 10 finish.

“But I would like to think we have the potential to push on towards the play-off places if things go well.”

Which players will Southend need to keep an eye on?

“Our best player so far this season has been Chris Maguire, who has been in great form.

“He’s also our top goalscorer with five goals.

“We also signed pacy winger Marvin Johnson from Motherwell, who can frighten any full back in League One.”

What are your memories from previous games with Southend?

“I remember losing 1-0 at home in 1993 when a young Stan Collymore was excellent for Southend.

“I also remember losing 6-1 at Roots Hall when Ricky Otto scored a hat-trick.

“I can recall Mark Rawle scoring a late winner for us at Roots Hall in 2003 but in more recent seasons most games have gone Southend’s way.

“I think Oxford have lost five out of the last six, with the other being a draw.

What’s the team news ahead of tonight’s game for Oxford?

“We still have some notable absentees who are still a few weeks away from fitness in Curtis Nelson and Robbie Hall.

“But other than that everyone else should be fit and available.”

What’s the predicted starting line up?

OXFORD: Eastwood, Edwards, Dunkley, Raglan, Skarz, Rothwell, Sercombe, Lundstram, Johnson, Maguire, Hemmings.
