SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown will be checking on the fitness of a trio of his players ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Peterborough at Roots Hall.

Anton Ferdinand, Ryan Inniss and Anthony Wordsworth all returned to the starting line-up against Oxford United on Tuesday night after spells on the sidelines.

But Brown is unsure whether or not they will be able to stay in the side this weekend.

“I’m going to have to look at all three of them really harshly if I’m honest,” said the Blues boss.

“You would think they would keep their place because we won the game against Oxford but I will look at them all in training today and see what they are like.

“I will need to see what their legs, limbs and minds are doing and if they will be able to get to that level of performance again on Saturday.”

Wordsworth’s start on Tuesday was his first since recovering from a hamstring injury he first suffered in March, while Ferdinand - who missed out on playing matches in pre-season - had sat out the Shrimpers’ previous three games with a hamstring problem of his own.

Ryan Inniss’ start was also his first in the league since March and came after he successfully appealed against a prison sentence he was originally given for assault. Blues will again be without Michael Timlin (hamstring) and striker Nile Ranger (ankle) this weekend.
