JASON Demetriou will return to training with Southend United today disappointed to have been been beaten twice in quick succession while on international duty with Cyprus.

The right-back played the full 90 minutes in World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

But the 28-year-old remains frustrated to have suffered two 2-0 defeats.

“They were two difficult games but of course it’s always disappointing to lose,” said Demetriou.

“Greece had some good technical players and we were told they’re feeling like they can win the group but I thought we did well against them.

“We dominated the game and think the stats proved that too.

“We all felt it was a clear foul for the first goal and a goalkeeper mistake for the second one so in the end it was a shame to lose that way but that’s football.”

And Cyprus were unable to bounce back in their next fixture as they suffered another 2-0 defeat, this time against Bosnia.

“Bosnia was also a very difficult game and it was very physical too,” said Demetriou.

“Most players were over six foot and were very big and strong.

“They were very direct but we coped well for 70 minutes until a loose ball from one of our players led to them scoring.

“So in the end I think we were satisfied with our performances but not with the results which are obviously what matter most in football so hopefully they will soon come.”

And Demetriou is now also hoping to help Southend get back to winning ways.

The right-back missed last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Rochdale but is keen to help Blues bounce back against Chesterfield on Saturday.

“I’m sure everyone will be up and at it for the weekend,” he added.
