BLUES boss Phil Brown believes the best is yet to come from Nile Ranger - despite the striker impressing in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Chesterfield.

Ranger added a physical presence to the Shrimpers strike-force on his home debut.

And Brown was delighted to see the 25-year-old packing a punch in attack.

“Nile Ranger did well and we saw glimpses of what he’s all about but he was also a little bit ring rusty like you would expect,” said Brown.

“He got 75 minutes or so under his belt and we will have to see how he recovers and if he can do the same against Bradford on Tuesday.

“Next to him, Simon Cox was back to his impish best too and they’re players who can open doors for us.

“Anthony Wordsworth is another one and they can give the bit of magic we need.”

At the other end of the field, Blues also dug deep to stop Chesterfield scoring.

And that also pleased Brown.

“Clean sheets are part and parcel of winning games so I’m very happy with that,” said the 57-year-old.

“We need to get that mentality back which has been part of our DNA in the last two or three years and once we do then we can go to places like Bradford and MK Dons with a bit more confidence.”
