SIMON Cox insists he is not concerned by his lack of goals - just as long as Southend United keep on picking up points.

The striker - who is expected to line-up at MK Dons tomorrow - has failed to score in his last seven starts for the Shrimpers.

But the 29-year-old’s main priority remains helping Phil Brown’s side work their way up the League One table.

“It’s not about me, it’s about getting positive results and we’ve been getting more of them lately which is good,” said Cox.

“The more positive results we get the more chances we’ll be getting to score but if we win and I don’t score then I’m happy.

“However, I have be brought here to score goals so I’ll certainly be looking to put that right again on Saturday.”

Cox has netted twice for Blues so far this season and has fought his way back into the team for the last two games.

The striker had previously been on the bench for successive league games and was frustrated to find himself out of favour.

“I thought I was coming here to play every minute of every game and when you don’t it’s hard to take,” said Cox.

“But I didn’t sit around and sulk, well not too much anyway and I had my conversations with the manager.

“It was put to bed after that and I was there for the team whenever needed.”

Cox was eventually recalled for the 1-0 win against Chesterfield before helping the Shrimpers draw 1-1 at Bradford City on Tuesday night.

And the forward is relishing lining up alongside Nile Ranger in attack.

“I’m playing in a two now which is what I thought I was brought in for,” said Cox, “It’s working well and Nile is my ideal kind of strike-partner.

“He’s big and strong and can flick things on.

“He’s still trying to find his full match fitness and sharpness but it’s coming with every game he plays.

“It seems to be working well at the moment and the last couple of games have been really positive for us all.”

Four points from the last two games have taken Blues up to 19th in the League One table.

And Cox is now seeking another positive performance against MK Dons, who are level on points with Southend in 16th.

“We’ve set our standard now and we have to keep hitting this level,” said Cox.

“If we do we will move much higher up the table.”
