SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has opened transfer talks with Zavon Hines.

The former West Ham United and Bradford City winger impressed when playing as a trialist for Blues’ under 21 team against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday afternoon.

And Brown has now met with the 27-year-old’s representatives to discuss a switch to the Shrimpers.

“I met with Zavon’s agents yesterday afternoon,” confirmed Brown.

“I like wingers and the more I have in the camp the better so we shall where the talks take us and what happens.

“But every winger we have here has to be prepared to do the ugly side of the game and track back just like Stephen McLaughlin is doing so well for us at the moment.”
