SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown faces two big selection headaches for tomorrow’s clash with Bradford City at Roots Hall.

Brown must pick between Michael Timlin and Anthony Wordsworth in central midfield.

And the Shrimpers boss is also mulling over who to name at right-back with Jason Demetriou, Luke O’Neill and potentially John White all pushing for a place.

“There are a couple of decisions which need to be made,” said Brown.

“One is who plays at right-back and the other is whether Michael Timlin keeps his place or if Anthony Wordsworth comes back in.”

Timlin created three of the Shrimpers’ four goals in last weekend’s 4-1 win at Bury.

But Wordsworth had also been in stunning form before being forced out of the starting line-up with a one match suspension which has now been completed.

“Michael had three assists at Bury but Woody had five goals in nine games before that so it’s a tough decision to make.

“A lot of people say Woody is more creative than Tims and Tims is more aggressive than Woody and they’re probably right.

“Tims’ start last weekend was his first in the league for seven months because of injury so there’s that to be thinking about too.

“With three games in eight days coming up we’re going to need everyone but the positive thing is this is putting pressure on everyone and that’s music to my ears.”

Brown also has intense competition for a starting slot at right-back with Demetriou having now returned from international duty with Cyprus.

White started in his absence at Bury but limped off with a hamstring injury which makes him doubtful for tomorrow’s game.

However, O’Neill is also in contention after impressing when replacing White against the Shakers.

“Bradford have wingers and (James) Meredith at left-back is a big attacking threat for them,” said Brown.

“John, who is 50/50 for the game, fits the bill defensively but Jason’s attacking is his best form of defence.

“Luke was also marvellous at Bury so we’re certainly not short of options.”
