SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown felt his side should have secured all three points against Swindon Town at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Robins striker Jonathan Obika cancelled out Will Atkinson’s opener.

But Brown thought Blues’ display warranted more than just a share of the spoils.

“We should be coming out as worthy winners in this game,” said the Blues boss.

“I suddenly found my centre-half (Adam Thompson) up for a free-kick and he then started pressing their goalkeeper and centre-back.

“Consequently there was a slot between Jason Demetriou and Anton Ferdinand which they exploited.

“They had a bit of fortune with a deflection and we didn’t have that fortune after that.

"We peppered their goal and the last 15 minutes was our best spell of the game.

“We should and could have won 4-1 or 5-1 but we couldn’t find a way past their keeper.”

However, Brown was keen to remain upbeat.

“There are lots of positives out there, it’s another point and another game unbeaten for us but it’s frustrating not to have won,” said the Southend boss.

“It’s disappointing but it’s seven points from nine for us so it’s a been a good little spell.

“However, we have to follow it up at Walsall on Saturday now.”
