JOE Bedford has his sights set on a first team debut after continuing his fine goalscoring form for Southend United’s under 21 team against Peterborough yesterday.
The 19-year-old midfielder broke the deadlock in a 2-0 win at Boots & Laces with his third goal in three games for the Shrimpers. And he now hopes his good run of form will catch the eye of Blues’ first team boss Phil Brown.
“I’d obviously love to get my first team debut and hopefully the manager gives me a chance but I’ll have to see how it goes,” said Bedford, who came through the youth system at Roots Hall.
“I feel like I’ve shown what I can do in the last few games but I’ll just keep on working hard.”
Bedford’s effort against Posh followed his brace against AFC Wimbledon which included a stunning long range strike which has been watched 15,000 times on YouTube.
“It’s great but I think it’s mostly been my mum and me,” he laughed.
