SOUTHEND United boss Phil Brown has failed to win the League One manager of the month award for November.

Brown was selected on the four man shortlist after leading the Shrimpers through November unbeaten in the league.

But the Blues chief - who lost out to Scunthorpe United chief Graham Alexander for the prize - remains happy to have ever been in contention.

“Being chosen on the short-list means we all must have been doing something right so it was pleasing to be one of the managers up for the award,” said Brown.

“November was a really good month for us and saw us move up the table having averaged two points a game.

“But we need more of the same in December now, starting with the game against Coventry tomorrow, so we can really be in contention for the play-offs.”

Brown’s Blues side picked up eight points from their four League One matches during November.

However, Scunthorpe boss Alexander - who has been nominated for the award in three of the last four months - helped the Iron secure 10 points and three clean sheets in November and was therefore selected by the judges.
