SOUTHEND United have missed out on signing striker Jay Simpson from Leyton Orient.
Shrimpers boss Phil Brown had been keen on bringing the 28-year to Roots Hall.
But Simpson has now agreed a move to MLS side Philadelphia Union, subject to international clearance and a work permit.
“We wanted to bring Jay in but the agent went quiet on us rather than the club this time so we did suspect he had something else lined up,” said Brown.
“We will now look elsewhere.”
Blues also tried to Simpson in the summer but he will now join up with the Philadelphia Union squad ahead of the new MLS season, which starts in March.
