SOUTHEND United’s under 21 team are in action at Newport County this afternoon.
The Shrimpers have opted not to include any senior players in the starting line-up.
And Blues boss Phil Brown is keen for the club’s youngsters to impress.
“We’ve chosen a complete under 21 team and it’s another opportunity for them to show what they can do,” said Brown.
“I’m sure they will want to impress.
“It will be a good test of their character heading all the way to Newport on the day of the game.”
Trialist striker Frank Nouble will not be lining up for the Shrimpers but centre-back Dan Matsuzaka, who was on the bench for the first team against Rochdale on Saturday is expected to figure.
Highly-rated midfielders Joe Bedford and Harry Phillips are also in line to start against the Welsh club.
The Central League clash gets underway at 2pm.
