SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is frustrated he is unable to appeal against the red card Jermaine McGlashan was shown against Rochdale on Saturday.

The Shrimpers winger will miss this weekend’s clash with Bolton Wanderers after being booked twice in quick succession by referee Rob Lewis.

But Brown still feels the dismissal was not justified and believes the rules should be changed to allow clubs the opportunity to contest any kind of red card.

“I think it’s stupid we can’t appeal against the red card Jermaine was given,” said the Blues boss.

“I understand that not every yellow card can be contested because then the floodgates would be opened and it would be happening all the time.

“But I really don’t see why clubs can’t appeal against a booking which leads to a sending off. I’ve watched the DVD of Saturday’s game again and I don’t agree with either of the yellow cards Jermaine was shown.

“For the second one he hasn’t really done much at all and now we’re going to be without him for a game which is very frustrating.”
