SOUTHEND United’s Anton Ferdinand is readying himself for a hostile reception at Millwall tomorrow.

The defender’s links to West Ham United are likely to see him targeted by the Lions supporters.

But Ferdinand is remaining fully focused on what he believes is another big game for Blues.

“I’m a West Ham fan and former player who is now with Southend so I’m sure I’ll get a few jeers but I’m looking forward to it because it’s another important match for us,” said the 31-year-old.

“Getting a few jeers tends to spur you on but if I’m having a bad time then I know I have the team-mates around me who will be able to dig me out.”

Ferdinand will again skipper the Shrimpers against the Lions, who he has yet to face this season.

And the composed defender is determined to build on last weekend’s impressive 3-1 win against Scunthorpe United.

“Saturday was a really big boost for us,” said the defender.

“We always expect to win our home games but the beating the team who were top of the league made it even sweeter.

“It was a deserved win too because of how we played and I felt as though we beat them in quite a comfortable manner if I’m honest.

“We’re going in the right direction so long may it continue because we’re in the top six and we want to stay there now.

“The whole squad wants what is best for the club and the minimum we’re aiming for now is the play-offs.”

Blues will now be seeking another three points against Millwall.

And Ferdinand believes the Shrimpers’ team spirit could prove key.

“Any team that does well needs to have a bond and a spirit like we do,” said the centre-back.

“We’re enjoying every minute at the moment and we’re all in this together.”
