SOUTHEND United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth will be aiming to break Oxford United hearts at the Kassam Stadium tonight.

Wordsworth has scored in both of Blues’ games against the U’s already this season.

And the 28-year-old has his sights set on making it three in a row to make it a Valentine’s Day to remember.

“I had forgotten I had scored in both of the games against Oxford this season but it’s nice to be reminded of it and hopefully I can get another goal to help us get a good result,” said Wordsworth.

“It’s another big game against a team in and around us in the table.

“But it’s a chance to get back to winning ways after Saturday and it’s one we want to make sure we go and take so we can move back up the table.”

The Shrimpers head into the clash sitting eighth in the League One standings, three places and three points ahead of Oxford who are also in a fine run of form.

However, Wordsworth is only focusing on making sure Blues are at their best.

“Oxford are a decent team who we know all about but I’m not really worried about them, I’m only keen on us and making sure we play well,” said the midfielder.

“Oxford are only just behind us now after a good run.

“But we’re on a good run ourselves and we’re all really fired up after losing at the weekend.”

Blues were beaten 1-0 at Millwall on Saturday but returned home feeling aggrieved following some dubious refereeing decisions from Andre Marriner.

But Wordsworth is now keen for the Shrimpers to get back on track.

“The referee killed us at Millwall but there’s nothing we can do now and there’s no point moaning about it,” said Wordsworth, who has scored eight goals so far this season.

“We battled hard with 10 men and could have taken something from the game in the end.

“But now we have to go out against Oxford and make sure we work even harder.

“We need to be doing all we can to get the three points.”

Southend will also be confident of impressing against the U’s having lost just one of the last 13 league games between the two teams.
