SIMON Cox will be aiming to become just the second Southend United star in 57 years to score in six successive home games when the Shrimpers host Northampton Town tomorrow.

Cox has netted in his last five outings at Roots Hall.

And the striker is now keen to extend that run against the Cobblers in a bid to help Blues’ push for the play-offs.

“I love playing at home and, as the manager often says, I think we tend to take the hand-brake off a bit more when we’re at Roots Hall,” said Cox.

“It was a great win at Oxford in the week.

“But we need to build on it now against a Northampton side who will be tricky opponents after winning their last two games.”

Martin Carruthers was the last Shrimpers player to score in six home game running, back in 2000 while Duggie Price did likewise in 1960.

Blues go into the match sitting seventh in the table, a point outside the play-offs.
