SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown will be bidding for revenge against Northampton Town this weekend bossing what he believes is his best ever Blues squad.

The Shrimpers were seen off 4-0 by the Cobblers in late September.

But Brown is now keen for his side to get their own back, just like they have already done against both Scunthorpe United and Rochdale.

“Northampton was one of three big away defeats we suffered towards the start of the season and, after beating the other two in the reverse fixtures, we want to make it three,” said Brown.

“We were able to dispose of both Scunthorpe and Rochdale at Roots Hall and now we want to see off Northampton but it will be tough.

“They are a team with goals in them but so are we and I have to say this is the best squad I’ve ever had in my four years as manager.”

But that means Brown will again be faced with some tough selection dilemmas this weekend.

“People think you only have sleepless nights as a manager when things aren’t going well but you can also have them when you’re thinking about what team to pick,” said Brown.

“At Oxford on Tuesday, John White was out ill, Will Atkinson was suspended and Zavon Hines was sat in the stands.

“Zavon is someone who has played in the Premier League and it really does show the depth we have in our squad at the moment which is great coming into the final third of the season.”
