SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown told a ‘gloating’ Gillingham to take a look at the League One table following the Shrimpers’ 2-1 defeat at the Priestfield Stadium.

Blues suffered their third defeat of the season against the Kent club after enduring a nightmare end to the first half.

But Brown was not happy with how the Gills behaved.

“For those who started goading us as if to say they’re a good side, with good players and management just look at the league table,” said the 57-year-old.

“Look where we’ve come from since the 3-1 defeat at the start of the season and where they’ve gone to.

“Somebody clearly isn’t doing their jobs properly and someone clearly is.”

Saturday’s defeat saw the Shrimpers slip down to sixth in the League One table.

But Brown was boosted by his side fought in the second half, despite being down to 10 men.

“I was so proud of the players in the second half,” said the Blues boss.

“If I was playing I would probably have been sent off because of my passion to win and my passion for the club.

"But the players have that too.”
