SOUTHEND United striker Simon Cox is still on a high after choosing the perfect time to net the first free-kick of his career.
Cox curled home an impressive set piece from 20 yards to secure a memorable 3-2 victory over Walsall, who had been 2-0 up at the break.
But, despite having scored 103 goals in his career, it was the first the striker had netted from a set piece.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever scored from a free-kick so it was great timing and a really good feeling,” said Cox.
“I was originally going to go to the other side but Anthony Wordsworth told me the wall was quite small so to go over it instead. He also told me not to hit it too hard but it was a great moment because it was a massive three points for us.”
