ON LOAN Southend United midfielder Luke Amos is desperate to build on his debut for the Shrimpers.

The 20-year-old, who is with Blues from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season, started Saturday’s 3-2 win against Walsall.

And he now hopes to be handed more opportunities to impress.

“It was brilliant to get my first league start and I was really happy to be picked for the game but I’ll only get another chance if I keep on working hard every single day so that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing,” said Amos.

“It was a surprise to be selected if I’m honest but I wanted to make sure I repaid the manager for picking me and I would like to think I did OK.

“I was buzzing we were able to get the three points in what was an important game and hopefully we’ll be able to build on that now.”

Amos’ start came after 10 games as an unused substitute.

But the youngster never became frustrated during his wait for his first appearance.

“I wouldn’t say I was frustrated because I’m still learning every single day by being in and around the first team and so many good players including the likes of Anton Ferdinand,” said Amos.

“I’m making sure I get as much from the experience as possible but of course as a footballer I’m always itching to get out there and play as much as I can.

“The team have been doing really well though and it’s been good to be a part of.”

Amos played 51 minutes of the dramatic clash against the Saddlers at Roots Hall and found it extremely different to playing for Tottenham’s under 21s.

“There’s a big step up and there’s definitely a lot more riding on the game,” said Amos, who has represented England at under 18 level.

“But I just had to make sure I stayed relaxed and enjoyed the game instead of building it all up too much which wouldn’t have been good for me.”

Amos will now be hoping to figure again at AFC Wimbledon this weekend.

And he is eager to help the sixth placed Shrimpers secure a third successive win.

“All the games are massive between now and the end of the season if we are going to get in the play-offs,” said Amos.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to put in another good performance and if I’m involved it would be great because I would love to be able to show what I can do.”
