SIMON Cox felt Southend United’s 2-0 win at AFC Wimbledon was secured by the Shrimpers’ grit and determination.

Cox joined Nile Ranger on the score-sheet at Kingsmeadow to help the sixth placed Blues secure a third successive win.

And Cox insisted Southend’s impressive attitude was the main reason for the good result.

“We knew it wasn’t a day for nice football, it was a day for grit and determination and that’s what we showed,” said the 29-year-old, who has now scored 13 goals this season.

“We had to do a professional job coming here, we had to defend really well and put our head in where it hurts.

“But to get the three points and a clean sheet makes this a really pleasing day.”

Cox’s goal also added to his delight as he hit the back of the net away from home for the first time since November.

But the forward had not been concerned by his lack of goals on the road.

“I’m not fussed if I score at home or away,” said Cox.

“I just want to make an impact otherwise you’ll be in the stands.”
