SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is seeking the Shrimpers’ second key victory of the season against Chesterfield this afternoon.

Blues kick started their campaign with a 1-0 win against the Spireites in October.

And the 57-year-old is now seeking more of the same in today’s rematch at the Proact Stadium.

“It was an important win against Chesterfield at Roots Hall, it was the start of us turning things around when you look back at it but now we want another crucial three points against them,” said Brown.

“We have spoken about that and also how we didn’t lose any of the reverse fixtures from our final 10 games.

“Unfortunately we can’t repeat that now after the last couple of games which haven’t gone our way but we’ve still got 12 points from the last six.

“It’s two points per game but eight from our last four probably won’t be enough for the play-offs so we will need to step things up again, starting with the game today.”

The sixth placed Shrimpers endured a sluggish start to the season, winning just three of their opening 12 games as they slipped to 22nd in the League One standings.

However, a 1-0 win against Chesterfield in October was the start of a run which saw Blues lose just once in 17 games to surge up the table and mount a push for the play-offs which is still ongoing.
