SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has opted to release four members of his Shrimpers squad, Echosport understands.

Luke O’Neill, David Mooney, Zavon Hines and Frank Nouble have all been let go as Brown looks to alter his squad ahead of next season.

O’Neill, who joined Blues in August 2015, made 36 appearances while at Roots Hall, lining up at both right-back and on the right hand side of midfield.

O’Neill made 21 appearances last season with nine of them starts, including the final day of the campaign against Bury.

Striker Mooney also joined the Shrimpers in the summer of 2015 and netted 10 goals in 52 appearances.

But he made just 12 starts last term after suffering an ankle injury in October.

Winger Hines, who joined Blues in January, leaves after making five appearances off the bench while striker Nouble also departs having played five times from the bench.

John White, Adam Thompson, Will Atkinson and Anton Ferdinand have all been made contract offers and the club remains in talks with Michael Timlin about a new deal.

It is also believed midfielder Jack Bridge, who still has a year left on his contract, could be made available for transfer.
