HEAD of youth Ricky Duncan was happy to see Southend United’s under 18 side complete their season with a 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Goals from Sewa Marah and Louie Hunt saw the Shrimpers triumph at Boots & Laces.
And Duncan was thrilled with the manner of the victory.
“We started our new intake of scholars and had three of our under 15 players coming on so I was delighted with the performance and the victory as well,” said Duncan.
“Nathan Bishop made an outstanding save when we were 1-0 up and about 15 seconds later we got the second goal to kill the game off.
“But I was really happy with how it went.
“We’ve made a lot of progress again this season and this was a great way to finish it all off.”
Blues made the breakthrough in the 31st minute when Marah arrowed a right-footed shot into the bottom left-hand corner from 25 yards out.
Hunt then completed the scoring three minutes from time after good approach play from Eren Kinali.
The victory also meant the Shrimpers ended up fifth in Merit League One, their highest ever finish.
Blues: Bishop, Hutchings (Hawkes 79), Osimeh, Stewart (Cooper 74), Mitchell-Nelson, Curran, Kinali, Yearwood, Egbri, Benton, Marah (Hunt 81)
