ADAM Thompson wants his new contract at Southend United to reflect the fine form he showed last season.

Thompson shone at the heart of the back four on a regular basis for Blues.

And the 24-year-old, who has now also been recalled by Northern Ireland, wants his performances to be rewarded with an improved deal.

“At this stage of my career the deal needs to reflect the progress I’ve made in recent seasons,” said Thompson, who has been offered a new two-year deal.

“I’m happy for the talks to continue but I’ll leave that to my agent now as I’m focusing on making the most of my Northern Ireland recall at the moment.”

Thompson made 45 appearances for the Shrimpers last season.
