MICHAEL Timlin will be staying with Southend United for another season after Shrimpers boss Phil Brown opted to trigger a clause in the midfielder’s contract.

The 32-year-old had been in talks with the Blues chief.

And Brown has now revealed Timlin will be remaining at Roots Hall.

“We’ve decided to trigger the clause in Michael’s contract and a letter of confirmation has been sent out to him,” said Brown.

“We saw his versatility last season.

“He played in three or four positions and it’s always good to have that kind of versatility in the squad.”

Timlin made 29 appearances for Blues last term and has now played 226 games for the club in total.
