STEPHEN McLaughlin will this week sign a new three year contract at Southend United.

The Irishman bagged seven goals in 38 games last season.

And Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin confirmed the winger will be committing his future to the club.

“Negotiations will be completed with Stephen for his new contract this week,” said Martin.

“I think it’s excellent news for the football club.”

McLaughlin joined Blues initially on loan in March 2015 before making the move permanent at the start of the following season.

The 27-year-old - who has made 65 appearances for the Shrimpers - still has 12 months left on his current contract.

But he will now sign a new deal which will keep him contracted at the club until 2020.
