MICHAEL Turner is closing in on a move to Southend United.

The former Norwich City defender has been with the Shrimpers since the start of pre-season.

And a deal for Turner has now been agreed, subject to him passing a medical.

“The deal for Michael is very close now,” confirmed Blues boss Phil Brown.

“Everything has been done apart from the medical and that could be completed today.

“I think it’s going to be a really good signing for us.”

Turner, 33, previously played for Shrimpers chief Brown while at Hull City.

The centre back has also lined up for Sunderland, who signed him for £4million in 2009.

Turner has made more than 430 appearances in his long career.
