SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown wants two more signings to complete his Shrimpers squad for next season.
The Blues boss has added three new faces so far this summer.
But he remains eager to bring in another centre-back and a central midfielder.
“I think we need to make two more signings and we’re in talks with our targets,” said Brown.
“Talks with a defender have been ongoing for a while and we’re speaking to a midfielder as well because they are the areas we need to strengthen in.
“The chairman has been very supportive and we will keep on talking to the players.”
The Shrimpers currently have just two natural centre-backs in their squad and are also short of central midfielders with Anthony Wordsworth set to miss the start of the season with a hamstring problem he sustained towards the end of the previous campaign.
