SOUTHEND United will be swapping football for cricket this evening.

The Shrimpers will face Southend & EMT in a 20 over contest.

And Blues boss Phil Brown is looking forward to the game.

“It’s always something a bit different but it’s good fun so it will be good to go back there,” said Brown.

“I’ll be playing but we haven’t quite sorted the team at the moment so I’m not sure who else will be out there.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and the forecast doesn’t actually look too bad at the moment.

“Fingers crossed it will prove to be alright and we can have an enjoyable evening there again.”

The match at Southchurch Park gets underway at 5.30pm and Southend & EMT chairman Patrick Kearney is pleased to be welcoming the Shrimpers.

“It’s always great to welcome Phil Brown and everyone at Southend United so we’re excited about the game tonight,” said Kearney.

“The bar will be open and we will have a barbecue on the go as well so it should be a really good evening, as long as it doesn’t rain!

“We hope to have a good crowd watching and to see as many people coming down to watch as possible.

“It’s all good fun and I’m not sure the actual game will be taken too seriously.

“But we’ve had some good matches over the years with some good cricket being played so it will be entertaining and there’s no charge to come and watch either.
