SOUTHEND United have opted to reject an improved offer from Millwall for midfielder Ryan Leonard.

The Lions - who were promoted from League One last season - are believed to have tabled a bid of £500,000 plus add-ons for the energetic 25-year-old who is also wanted by Sheffield United.

But Blues boss Phil Brown confirmed the offer had been rejected.

“The chairman has turned down another offer for Ryan and the message is we don’t want to sell him,” said Brown.

“It’s flattering that two or three clubs want him and I would imagine that will continue to be the case until the transfer window closes at the end of August.”

Leonard - who has a year left on his contract - has turned down the Shrimpers’ offer of a new contract.
