ECHOSPORT talks to Shrewsbury Town fan Owen Taylor ahead of tonight’s clash at Greenhous Meadow.

Shrewsbury are currently top of the table. How happy are you with the start to the season?

“It’s been a positive start but there are still 40 games to go.

“Most of the signings have been positive and players that have proven themselves for other clubs. There are a number of players who have worked under the manager Paul Hurst before, which also helps in his system.”

What has changed since last season, when Shrewsbury only just avoided relegation?

“For starters it’s Hurst’s first season.

“He got rid of the poor players we had under Micky Mellon and the tactics are completely different.

“Under Mellon it was negative and hoof it to no one in particular but under Hurst it’s completely different.

“Yes, there’s often the long ball. However, we play it along the ground more and there is more patient build-up play.

“Recruitment is better than under Mellon too. Better quality players have been bought in and players that we’ve sold have been replaced.”

What are the hopes for the rest of the season now?

“The hope for this season was to have a mid-table year and it’s too early to judge what the future holds. Maybe at Christmas we’ll have a clearer picture.”

Who have the stand-out players been for Shrewsbury?

“Dean Henderson, on loan from Manchester United, is proving to be an exciting and upcoming keeper.

“Junior Brown and Matt Sadler always give 100 per cent in every game in defence. Abu Ogogo, our captain, is good in defence and picks out key passes.

"Jon Nolan dictates the midfield very well, holding up the ball and he has an eye for a pass.

"He was our player of the month for September while Shaun Whalley can cut through the defence with his pace.”

What’s the team news?

“Bryn Morris is still unavailable after surgery, as is striker Niall Ennis, who is on loan from Wolves. Carlton Morris is unlikely to feature after missing the last game and was even at the Norwich v Birmingham game, which increases speculation of them recalling him.

"I predict the line-up will be identical to the one that featured against Wigan.”
