ECHOSPORT chats to Northampton Town fan Charles Commins ahead of tomorrow’s game at Roots Hall.

What have you made of the season so far?

“It’s been full of downs and ups already and we aren’t even 10 games in yet.

“Before the season started there was a really positive vibe coming off the back of our new Chinese investment and some of the perceived quality in the signings but it all faded really quickly.

“Our first game away at Shrewsbury wasn’t awful but all the fans could see Justin Edinburgh’s preferred 5-3-2 formation simply didn’t work well with our lack of natural wing-backs.

“He was sacked after a 4-1 defeat to Peterborough, which left us without a win since March, but we look like a different side with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.”

What has Hasselbaink changed?

“The biggest change has been the formation. Hasselbaink has dropped the 5-3-2 and gone with what looks like a 4-3-3.

“We’ve been far more solid at the back and the players seem to look more comfortable in the new formation. From what I can see they have been given a confidence boost because of it.”

Who are the main threats in the team?

“Chris Long, on loan from Burnley, scored twice against Pompey on Tuesday night and has a good scoring record in this league from his time with Fleetwood last season.

“Matt Crooks looks potent playing just behind Alex Revell.”

What’s the team news?

“I expect an unchanged side apart from Shaun McWilliams being replaced by Yasir Kasam but it will be Hasselbaink’s first away game with us so he may spring a few surprises our way!”
