SOUTHEND United will travel to Yeovil Town in the first round of the FA Cup.

The Shrimpers are set to head to Huish Park at the start of November.

And Blues boss Phil Brown is keen to enjoy a good run this season after suffering three first round exits in succession.

“We will be taking the competition very seriously this season because it would be good to have a good run in it,” said Brown.

“We want to create more good memories like we had when we beat Millwall and went on to play Hull City.

“They are the games which stand out for me and it’s been disappointing we haven’t had much of a run since then.

“We’ll certainly be picking a strong side and we’ll be sending a strong squad down for the tie.”

Yeovil are currently 17th in the League Two table and have triumphed just twice in their last nine games.

But Brown would have preferred a side closer to home.

“It’s a long journey and ideally we would have preferred not to have to do another one of those but it is what it is and we just have to get on with it,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“I remember when Jakub Sokolik talked about the journey as he was on loan from them, but we’re used to these journeys now.

“It’s an awkward looking tie but it’s one we will be determined to win.”

Yeovil have been beaten just once in seven home League games this season.

And Brown will immediately look to find out more about the Glovers.

“I don’t know too much about them at the moment if I’m honest but we will do by the time we play them,” said the 58-year-old.

“We will have them watched in the next few weeks and will be preparing properly for the game.”

This season will also be the 100th time the Shrimpers have entered the FA Cup.

Blues were first in the competition during the 1907/08 season and have played 280 matches since then, winning 129 and losing 100.
