ANTHONY Wordsworth wants recent history to be repeated when Southend United host Peterborough United tonight.

The attacking midfielder scored in both games against Posh last season.

And the 28-year-old will be seeking more of the same this evening as the Shrimpers attempt to get back to winning ways after suffering two successive defeats.

“We did well against Peterborough last season and we will be looking to do that again tonight,” said Wordsworth.

“It would be nice if I could score again too but I’ll take the three points over another goal because we need the win. Peterborough are a little bit out of form at the moment so we’ll be looking to pick up the victory.

“But they’re a good attacking team so I think it could be quite an open game, which will hopefully suit us.”

Blues head in to tonight’s game having been beaten 3-0 at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

However, Wordsworth insists spirits are still high in the Shrimpers camp.

“We have togetherness and team spirit here, so the group is still good,” said the midfielder.

“We’re still positive going into this and we’ve been doing well at home so hopefully we can keep that going.

“The scoreline at the weekend was disappointing but I thought we were still in the game when it was 11 against 11.

“But when we went down to 10 men it was game over really against a top team like Wigan.

“We’ve got a chance to bounce back now though and it’s one we want to take.”

However, Southend head into the contest sitting 15th in the League One standings.

And Wordsworth feels Blues’ lengthy injury list has been the main reason for their indifferent start to the season.

“We’ve made signings but I don’t think we’ve had them all on the pitch at the same time yet,” said Wordsworth, who has scored three goals in six games this term.

“They’re all in the treatment room but a couple are coming back now and I think things will start to turn when they’re all available.

“When everyone is out training we’ll be fine but it’s hard to find consistency when you’re chopping and changing the team.”
