MARC-ANTOINE Fortune felt Southend United proved they were a good side in their midweek draw with Peterborough United and is now seeking more of the same against Bury this weekend.

Fortune bagged Blues’ goal in the 1-1 draw with Posh on Tuesday night.

And he now has his sights set on firing Phil Brown’s side back to winning ways on Saturday.

“We were disappointed we didn’t win against Peterborough but you can always find something positive in every game and we showed we are a good team against Peterborough,” said Fortune.

“Peterborough are one of the best teams in the league but we did well against them.

“We have to keep this going now and if we do then things will start to come.

“But we played some positive football and we want to take that into Saturday now and make sure we win the game against Bury.

“I would like to play again too but it will be up to the manager.”

Fortune had been on the bench for Blues’ previous six League One outings before returning to the starting line-up against Peterborough.

Fortune partnered Simon Cox in attack and was happy to bag his first goal of the season with a well-taken effort after just 10 minutes.

“I had been waiting for the goal since the first game and I’ve been looking forward to scoring so it was good to score,” said Fortune, who had gone 14 games without a goal.

“But I can’t be completely happy because we drew the game.

“We lost two points and I thought we should have won but now we have to make sure we recover well and get ready for the next game on Saturday.”

The Shrimpers will head into the game against the Shakers without a win in their three games.

That has seen Phil Brown’s side slip down to 15th in the League One standings.

But Fortune insists the team are determined to get back on track this weekend.

“We are looking forward to Saturday and going to win the game,” said the 36-year-old.

“When the manager started me on Tuesday I tried to score and play well and I will try to do that again on Saturday if he starts me.

“But I train hard and I’m always ready to play.”

Bury head into Saturday’s game sitting 21st in the League One standings.

Lee Clark’s side have also yet to win away from home so far this season, losing four of their six games.
