ANTHONY Wordsworth is doubtful for Southend United’s FA Cup clash at Yeovil Town on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder suffered a calf problem during last weekend’s 1-0 win at Walsall.

And Blues boss Phil Brown is not sure Wordsworth will recover in time to take on the Glovers.

“I’m going to be naming an unchanged team this week if I can but the only doubt at the moment is Woody and I’m not sure if he will be able to play or not at this stage,” said Brown.

“He suffered a calf problem during the Walsall game so we’re going to have to wait and see how he is.

“But I certainly won’t be taking any risks.”

Dru Yearwood would be favourite to replace Wordsworth in the centre of the park but Blues will definitely be without both Harry Kyprianou and Rob Kiernan this weekend.

Kyprianou made seven successive starts at the heart of the Shrimpers’ back four before suffering a thigh problem in the 4-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers at the start of October.

But the 20-year-old is now back running in training.

“Harry is making progress and he’s back outside running again now, which is nice to see,” said Brown.

“He’s only running in straight lines at the moment and there’s been no ball work involved so he’s still a little way off right now, but it’s still been good to see him outside.”

However, centre-back Rob Kiernan is facing another six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a second knee operation.

Kiernan visited a specialist earlier this week and has now had surgery.

“Rob had one knee operated on a little while back and that was so successful that we’ve had the other one done as well now,” said Brown.

“He’s had tendonitis in both knees but we weren’t able to operate on them at the same time.

“There’s no doubt he will come back from this at more than 100 per cent fit and he’s in a good place.

“His character is very similar to Ben Coker and hopefully we can see him back in about five or six weeks.”

But goalkeeper Ted Smith - who has been out since mid-September with a shoulder problem - will be back far sooner.

“Ted could play some part in the Colchester game on Tuesday,” added Brown.
