A PATCHED-UP Anthony Wordsworth is determined to figure for Southend United at Yeovil Town tomorrow.

Wordsworth is rated 50/50 the FA Cup first round tie after suffering two calf injuries at Walsall last weekend.

And the midfielder also has to contend with a broken finger which he sustained in quite comical fashion during training.

“Ben Coker is just coming back from injury and he’s kicking balls everywhere because he’s excited.

“But he kicked one straight at my finger and broke it.

“The calf problems came at Walsall on on Saturday and staying on probably didn’t do me any favours but hopefully I’ll still be able to play at Yeovil.”

Wordsworth’s first calf injury came just five minutes into the game at the Bescot Stadium.

However, his other calf then also began to tighten up and the midfielder is still having treatment on both legs.

“It was the left one to start with but then the right one seized up too,” said Wordsworth.

“Everyone was telling me to go off but when you’ve missed so much football you want to stay on the pitch.

“I’ve been injured for a long time so I wanted to stay out there but I’m just glad they didn’t pop.

“Fingers crossed I’ll train today and get through it OK to put myself into contention for the game tomorrow.”

Wordsworth has been a regular starter since recovering from the hamstring injury which ruled him out of the first nine games of the season.

The midfielder has bagged three goals in nine outings and is eager to help Blues embark on a good run in the FA Cup.

“It’s another important game because we want to get to the third round and hopefully draw one of the big boys,” said Wordsworth.

“We all grew up watching it and we know there’s that show on BBC One where they show all the games so all the boys will be trying to get on the score-sheet to pop up on the telly.

“I’ve not really had a great run in the FA Cup. I’ve gone out in the first round pretty much every time but hopefully that can change tomorrow.”

And Wordsworth dreams of being able to face Arsenal in the third round.”

“I want to get to third round and play at the Emirates because I’m an Arsenal fan,” he said.

“The boys will all be wanting to be drawn against the teams they support away from home.”

“We needed to stop conceding goals and it seems we’re doing that now. Our defence has been better and our mentality has changed.”
