SOUTHEND United have moved to defend their ticket prices following the results of the BBC's price of football survey.

The survey revealed the Shrimpers' cheapest season card price - of £395 - was the most expensive in the whole of League One.

But Blues' head of commercial Rhys Ellingham was keen to clarify the sitaution.

“The suggestion that Blues’ ‘cheapest’ season card price represents the highest in League One is misleading," said Ellingham.

"At Roots Hall we have a flat rate around the whole of the stadium for adult season cards and therefore the same figure also puts us 17th out of 24 clubs in the ‘dearest season ticket category’.

"This underpins the value for money fans are receiving here at Roots Hall.

“After communicating with our fan base before the 17/18 season we also realised the need to decrease our ‘Young Adult’ category to make it more affordable for 17-22 year olds, reducing the cost of the 17/18 season card to only £150 which equates to just over £6.50 a League One game at Roots Hall.

“This has been gratefully received which has been proven with over 3,800 season card holders attending Southend United matches this season and we will soon be launching our half season cards which will also work out excellent value per game to our supporters.”
