A FRUSTRATED Josh Wright is certain Southend United’s season will soon get back on track - despite a run of disappointing results.

The 14th placed Shrimpers have taken just two points from their last three games.

But Wright believes the manner of the performances show Blues have what it takes to work their way up the League One table.

“The last few games have been gutting and extremely frustrating because we should definitely have got more points,” said Wright.

“We drew at MK Dons when we should have won, we drew against Oxford when we should have won and we lost at Portsmouth when we should have at least got a draw.

“We should really have an extra four or five points to our name and that’s been tough to take, but we have to look forward and stay positive.

“The draws have been good performances and it’s not as though we’ve scraped a point or a late equaliser.

“We’ve played well and been on top and if that carries on we’ll get back to winning ways and move up the table.

“I think we’re very, very close to being a very, very good team.”

However, for that to happen, Wright accepts the Shrimpers will have to convert more of the chances coming their way.

Phil Brown’s side have been particularly wasteful in front of goal in their last three games.

But Wright feels Blues will soon start to score on a more regular basis.

“The chances are coming our way and it won’t be too long until they go in and we give someone a real hiding,” said the 28-year-old.

“I could already be on about five goals since coming here and I know I should have scored on Saturday.

“I hit the bar with the volley in the first half and on another day that goes in but the one in the second half I was originally expecting to hit with my right foot and I ended up scuffing it.

“But we all just have to keep on making sure we get in the right areas and things will start to change.”

And Wright wants that to be the case against Oldham Athletic at Roots Hall this weekend.

“We’re very strong at home and I don’t think anyone in our League would look forward to coming to play us here,” said the midfielder.

“Oldham have picked up since Richie Wellens got the job so I’m sure they will be difficult opponents.

“But after a good week of training we will be raring to go and we’ll be feeling confident too because we all feel as though we’ve been playing well.”
