SOUTHEND United’s under-23 team coach Kevin Maher heaped praise on his side following their convincing 4-0 win against Swindon Town this afternoon.

The Shrimpers dominated the majority of the match at their Boots & Laces base.

And Maher was happy with all aspects of the performance.

“It was dominant once we got the first goal and the way the lads went about their work was great,” said the former Blues midfielder.

“We’ve spoken about our standards and they are setting them quite high at the moment.

“I’m really pleased with the performance and it followed on from last week, which is great.”

The in-form Norman Wabo bagged a brace for the Shrimpers while Michael Klass and Tom Clifford were also on target.

But Maher was also pleased to see Blues keep a clean sheet.

“Everyone did well right from Nathan Bishop, who made a couple of very good saves, right through to the strikers, so I’m pleased with how everyone went about it and the way they performed,” said Maher.

“I thought the two centre-backs did well and so did Tom at left-back.

“He took his goal really well and there were good performances throughout the whole team.

“Winning 4-0 at home is a great result and all of them are in a good place at the moment.

“It bodes well with regards to what we’re producing and what we’ve got coming through but they have to keep this going.”
