MICHAEL Timlin insists the Southend United squad remain right behind manager Phil Brown.

The Shrimpers boss said he was unsure he had the backing of his players following Saturday’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers.

But Timlin refuted those suggestions and was adamant his team-mates are still determined to succeed for the former Hull City chief.

“You always get the players saying these things but we really are 100 per cent behind the gaffer,” said Timlin, who was an unused substitute against the Pirates.

“He can only pick a team and it’s the team that goes out there and has to perform.

“But we are totally committed to him and he does some great things behind the scenes that people don’t know about.

“He has been at the highest level so he knows how things should be done and that’s of benefit to us at this level.

“We’re totally behind him and come Saturday against Bradford I would like to think you’ll see a reaction to prove that.”

And Timlin also remains confident 12th placed Blues will be able to bounce back from their setback in Bristol to soon work their way up the League One standings.

“We know with the gaffer, the players we have here and one or two additions in January we will be up there but we have to change what’s happening away from home,” said Timlin.

“The manager is fuming and he’s hurt.

“This performance has made it easier for people who are against him to point the finger but we know the chairman has been so good to the gaffer and hopefully that continues.”

But Timlin also knows Blues must quickly improve if they are to remain in contention.

And he was quick to apologise to the travelling supporters.

“We’re very disappointed and we have to say sorry for the fans because they came in good numbers and were positive throughout the game,” said Timlin.

“They’ve spent good money to get here, especially with Christmas coming up, but we didn’t react quickly enough.

“Harsh words have been said and rightly so but we have to make sure we turn up against Bradford now.”

And Timlin also called on the players to work in unison in a bid to bounce back.

“As a group we have to stay together and show the fans we’re committed,” said Timlin.

“We have to roll up our sleeves and run hard. I’ve no doubt the players will do that but we have to do it consistently.”
