ADAM Thompson insists it is still too soon to judge whether he was right to leave Southend United.

The centre-back quit the Shrimpers to join Bury in the summer, only to join Bradford City on loan at the end of August.

But Thompson - who will be back at Roots Hall with the Bantams this weekend - believes time will tell if he made the correct decision for his career.

“You could maybe look at it and say it wasn’t the right decision because I haven’t been getting games but it’s only been five months so I think it’s too early to say really,” said Thompson.

“At the time there were loads of variables for my decision and I went with what my gut instinct told me was right.

“Bury tried really hard to sign me and gave me a three year deal but when I got there I didn’t see eye to eye with the manager, which can happen in football. Luckily I was able to get out before the end of the transfer window and I’m happy being at Bradford now.”

However, Thompson - who made 120 appearances during his four seasons with the Shrimpers - has made just four League starts this term. And the 25-year-old knows it will be tough to break into a City side who are currently fourth in the table.

“The lads here have been playing brilliantly so it’s been hard to get in the team,” said Thompson.

“I’ve played a few games and come off the bench but this is a really big club and playing in front of 20,000 fans is fantastic. There’s been a lot going on, with a new manager to throw into the equation at Bury now, but I’m enjoying it at Bradford.

“And, although I’m not sure whether or not I’ll be playing, I’m looking forward to the game on Saturday and coming back to a club where I have so many happy memories.”

Thompson has stayed in touch with several of his former Blues team-mates and believes they will be tough opposition.

“I’ve seen Southend are one of five teams unbeaten at home this season and Liverpool and Man City are two of the others,” said Thompson.

“A few of the lads have spoken to me about Southend and finding it a horrible place to play but we’ve been doing well away from home so it will be a good game.”
