NORMAN Wabo continued his fine scoring streak by bagging a brace in Southend United’s under-23 team’s 3-2 defeat against AFC Wimbledon this afternoon.

Wabo’s goals took his tally to 16 strikes in 17 games and saw him earn praise from Shrimpers coach Kevin Maher.

“Norman has taken the two goals out of nothing,” said Maher.

“He does things differently but he’s on a great run of form at the minute and he’s taking his goals ever so well.

“You can’t really coach the things he does at times but he’s scored another two goals and, for me, he’s finding a consistency in his game.

“He’s scoring on a regular basis and we’re drumming into him every day about doing things right and I think that’s coming out in the games now.”

Wabo - who has come through the youth ranks at Roots Hall after joining when 15 - has made two substitute appearances for the first team in recent weeks and will now be hoping for more opportunities to impress.

Wabo’s first goal against the Dons came when he rounded goalkeeper Nick Tzanev and fired home from a narrow angle with his left foot.

The 19-year-old then doubled his tally with an excellent individual effort which saw him run from just inside the halfway line before netting with a low, left footed shot from 20 yards.
