SOUTHEND United have missed out on two of their transfer targets, Echosport understands.
The Shrimpers had a £150,000 offer accepted for Sheffield United midfielder Ben Whiteman, but the midfielder was keen to remain in the north of the country and instead opted to join Doncaster Rovers, where he had previously been on loan.
Blues were also keen on bringing in striker Jordy Hiwula, who is currently on loan at Fleetwood Town from Huddersfield Town.
However, the 23-year-old was also reluctant to move south, while another striking target looks set to stay with the Championship club he is currently on loan with.
The Shrimpers have also made enquiries about another striker currently on the books of a London-based Premier League club, while advanced discussions are also taking place with a midfielder who is currently plying his trade in the Championship.
